The Twitch Ad Blocker Built for Chrome
Shush is a dedicated Twitch ad blocker Chrome extension engineered to bypass pre-roll and mid-roll video ads. While generic blockers fail against modern platform updates, Shush directly filters server-side ad insertions.
Trusted by Twitch viewers worldwide
What This Twitch Adblock Catches (And What It Ignores)
Engineered to Block Platform Ads
Aggressive video ads injected by the streaming platform
- Pre-roll ads that delay stream startup
- Mid-roll video interruptions during live gameplay
- Banner and overlay ads surrounding the video player
- Platform anti-adblock warning screens (the purple screen of death)
What Remains Unfiltered
Content we intentionally leave alone
- Creator-read sponsorships or baked-in overlays on the broadcaster's personal video feed
- Ads on websites outside of the Twitch domain
- Ads served on official mobile or smart TV apps
Adapting to Delivery Changes
Twitch frequently updates its video delivery system. When structural changes happen, a small percentage of ads might temporarily slip through. We actively monitor these updates and deploy patches rapidly to keep your experience ad-free.
Why Shush Beats Generic Ad Blockers
Twitch-Specific Filtering Logic
General ad blockers target standard website image banners. Twitch handles ad delivery differently through Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI). The platform directly stitches commercial video into the live broadcast feed. Generic tools miss these commercials because the ad data looks identical to the stream data. Shush specifically targets and intercepts this unique SSAI stream logic.
Built for Modern Chrome
Google Chrome recently transitioned its extension rules to Manifest V3 (MV3). This shift broke older ad-blocking workflows and archived community scripts. Shush is built natively for the current Chrome environment. You get a secure, compliant tool without needing to switch browsers or install complicated user scripts.
Aggressive Maintenance Cycles
Old Reddit guides usually point to stale GitHub repositories. We treat active maintenance as our core feature. We prove this freshness publicly. Users can view our exact version history and verify our last update timestamp at any time.
How Shush Works Under the Hood
Twitch Server
Sends playlist with live video + ad segments

Filtering ActiveYour Browser
Receives clean stream without ad interruptions
Ad-FreeThe Filtering Process
When you load a live stream, the server sends a playlist file containing both live video and upcoming ad segments. Shush sits between your Chrome browser and the server. It identifies the ad segments in the playlist and dynamically filters them out. The extension then requests a clean version of the stream so your player skips the commercial break.
The Resolution Trade-off
Because of how we filter the stream, you will occasionally notice a temporary drop in video quality (typically to 480p) during the exact window an ad normally plays. You might also experience a brief player refresh. The stream automatically returns to full source resolution once the ad passes. This brief resolution dip is a necessary, safe trade-off to bypass the commercial without triggering anti-adblock errors.

Shush vs Your Other Options
Shush vs Twitch Turbo
Twitch Turbo is the official paid subscription that removes ads platform-wide. At $11.99/month in the US, it serves as a premium option. Shush provides a free alternative for desktop users who want to reduce interruptions without a recurring monthly bill. Turbo remains the best choice if you watch primarily on mobile apps or smart TVs.
Shush vs Switching Browsers
Many tech forums suggest abandoning Chrome for niche browsers with built-in aggressive blocking. Rebuilding your bookmarks, passwords, and workflow in a new browser is massive friction. Shush allows you to keep your current Chrome setup while solving the specific ad problem.
